PSAT
The PSAT is scheduled for October 10, 2018. All students who are enrolled in 10th and 11th grade at William A. Hough High School are automatically registered to take the PSAT. No other action is required. There are no make up dates for the PSAT.
Students will need to bring #2 pencils (NO Mechnical pencils allowed) and a calculator. Other than the permitted calculator, no electronic devices are allowed - no cell phones, electronic translators/dictionaries, iPads, tablets, Smart watches, etc.
Accommodations are given only to students who have already been approved through the College Board.
PSAT score reports are usually available in January and are given out during a homeroom.
Students who have a College Board account can view their scores earlier online (sometime in December). If the student made the College Board account after taking the PSAT, they will need to contact College Board to have the score linked to the account.

AP Exams
Advanced Placement (AP) Exams are given during the first two full weeks of May (May 6-10 and 13-17, 2019). The schedule can be found here
We will be administering the 2019 AP exams at two different sites. AP Exams given during the first week May 6-10 will be at Freedom House Church (Central Campus) at 2638 Salome Church Rd, Charlotte NC 28262. AP Exams given during the second week May 13-17 will be at Hough High School. Information will be sent home with student at the beginning of February 2019. Registration forms will be given out at that time - they are due no later than March 22, 2019! Students will need parental permission to drive or carpool to first week offsite. That form will be given out to students the week of April 29 and will be due May 3rd. It is linked here.
All AP students must attend a PreCoding session to receive their AP student number and prepare their answer sheets. These sessions will be April 8, 9 and 10 - all sessions will be in the cafeteria and start promptly at 2:25 pm. There are no make up sessions so please make this a priority. ALL AP students must attend just one of the sessions listed.
The Advanced Placement exams are in May but the planning phase is already underway. Even though CMS pays the exam fee for all students enrolled in the AP courses ($142 for AP Seminar and AP Research exams, $94 for all other exams), students must fill out a registration form. These will be given out during AP classes during week of 3/4/19 along with the AP Bulletin for Students and Parents and an Important Information form. Registration forms will be due 3/22/19. These forms are used for registering and ordering AP Exams. No exam will be ordered for a student who does not turn in a registration form. Here are links to registration form, information forms side 1 and side 2, and AP student bulletin.
The contact person for the AP exams is Susan Keiger, our testing coordinator. She can be reached by phone 980-344-0514 or email at [email protected].
There are many policies and restrictions that are placed on AP examinations. Students will receive more information through the AP Bulletin for Students and Parents. However, you can find a wealth of information in the College Board's AP website. Your student MUST have a College Board account in order to receive scores for AP Exams. No score reports are sent to the school.
Accommodations are given only to students who have already been approved through the College Board.

Accommodations for National ACT and College Board Exams
In order to receive accommodations on a National ACT or College Board Exam (PSAT, SAT, AP) the student must have approval granted by the appropriate testing organization. Just having an IEP or 504 Plan does not automatically qualify a student for accommodations on any of these national exams. The steps for requesting accommodations are listed below. Be aware that it can take up to 7 weeks to receive a decision about accommodations and there is a deadline for requesting them. Please read each organizations website thoroughly before starting the process.
National ACT
The ACT Organization requires that the student register for a National ACT exam first and then submit the request for accommodations. To initiate the process, the parent must print, fill out and sign the Consent to Release Information Form
Give the completed form to the school testing coordinator who will upload the request along with accompanying documentation. For information on what documents could be required please see the ACT website . You will receive a notification letter when a decision has been made.
If your student took the State ACT with accommodations in February, you must still request those accommodations again for any National ACT. The process is: your student must register for a National ACT, then you notify the School Test Coordinator (STC) of that date so that the STC can add that National ACT date to the accommodations request and submit it to ACT.
College Board Exams (PSAT, SAT, AP)
The College Board does not require you to register for a specific exam prior to requesting accommodations approval. However, there are deadlines published for each exam which you need to be aware of - check their website. To initiate the process, the parent must print, fill out and sign (both parent and student sign this one) the Consent to Release Information Form.
Give the completed form plus copies of any required documentation to the school testing coordinator who will upload the request along with accompanying documentation. For information of what documents could be required please see the College Board SSD website. You will receive a notification letter when a decision has been made.
